Takedown and Voodoo Lad currently occupy the top line of 2016 Moonga Stakes betting with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Fast ‘N’ Rocking and Hopfgarten; currently tied on the second line at generous $9 odds.

Will one of the two resounding favourites justify their status and win the 2016 Moonga Stakes, or will one of their many talented rivals post an upset?

Voodoo Lad ($3.60)

Voodoo Lad has found excellent form this season and should prove too sharp for his rivals in the Moonga Stakes. Running second in the Listed All Victorian Series Final (1200m) on July 9th, Voodoo Lad progressed to third in the Bruce Gadsden BM90 (1200m) before posting a maiden black type win in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) on August 13th. Repeating the dose in the Listed Fruit Supply Stakes (1200m) on September 3rd, the I Am Invincible gelding produced a big turn of foot to run second in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 24th and will relish a step back in class this weekend.

Stratum Star ($18)

Group 1 winner Stratum Star is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago and is arguably over the 2016 Moonga Stakes odds at his current quote. Winner of the 2015 edition of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Stratum Star returned this year for seventh in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) before placing second in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) second-up. Placing third in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) and sixth in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in autumn, the Stratum entire performed competitively through winter and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current Moonga Stakes odds.

Takedown ($3.70)

Takedown has returned to racing in career-best condition this season, but there is something of a query of the horse at the Victorian way of going, and he will have to bring his best form to win the Moonga Stakes. Producing a number of commendable efforts in autumn and winter, including a close third in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m), Takedown has won each of the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Premiere Stakes this time in. Blake Shinn retains the ride on the gelding, who will leave from the ideal barrier 5.
